Minrecordite with Dioptase
specimen number:
2063240
location:
Tsumeb Mine, Otjikoto, Namibia
description: The famous Tsumeb Mine in Otjikoto, Namibia, is world-renowned for its complex geology, featuring a deeply oxidized, pipe-like hydrothermal deposit in Precambrian dolomite that produced over 300 mineral species. Historically mined for lead, copper, and zinc for over a century, the site became legendary among mineral collectors for its extraordinary secondary mineral specimens. Among these rarities is minrecordite, a zinc-bearing mineral of the dolomite group that was first discovered at Tsumeb and named in honor of the Mineralogical Record publication.
Sparkling colorless micro crystals of minrecordite on matrix with dioptase. The dioptase are mostly broken crystals or masses, a few crystals are present. Good rich thumbnail for this rare mineral. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Wouter I. Van Tichelen.
Size: 2.5 x 2.1 x 1.3 cm (thumbnail)
