An excellent thumbnail for this Mexican classic. Yellow spherical shape crystal groupings of mimetite to 0.6 cm in size very aesthetic on top of matrix. This is in good condition with minor micro-touching as seen. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark. The specimen was collected by Benny Fenn in 1968 from the ninth level of the mine.

The Congreso-Leon Mine in San Pedro Corralitos, Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, Mexico, is a historic mining locality embedded within an oxidized hydrothermal vein system rich in base metals. Historically worked on a modest scale for lead and silver, the mine gained international renown among mineral collectors during the late 20th century for producing world-class specimens of mimetite. Geologically, the area features mineralized veins cutting through altered carbonate rocks, where intense weathering and secondary oxidation processes transformed primary ore bodies into cavities filled with vibrant minerals. Within these oxidized zones, mimetite developed as striking, bright yellow to orange botryoidal crystals, cementing the district's status as one of the premier global sources for this secondary mineral.
