Malachite
specimen number:
9892203
location:
Mindingi mine, Kambove, Haut-Katanga, DR Congo
description: The Mindingi Mine, located near Kambove in the Haut-Katanga Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, sits within the heart of the prolific Central African Copperbelt. Geologically, the deposit is hosted within Neoproterozoic sedimentary sequences of the Katanga Supergroup, where intense tectonic activity and fluid circulation concentrated rich copper and cobalt ores within fractured carbonate and shale units. Historically, the area has been shaped by both large-scale colonial exploration under Belgian rule and subsequent generations of artisanal and small-scale mining operations. Mineralogically, the locality is celebrated by collectors for yielding superb secondary copper specimens, particularly fine associations of fibrous malachite and crystallized quartz.
An attractive cluster of chatoyant green crystallized malachite. A floater that is complete all around and in great condition.
