Malachite
specimen number:
2351052
location:
Emke Mine, Onganja, Namibia
description: Located in the Khomas Region northeast of Windhoek, Namibia, the Emke Mine at Onganja sits within hydrothermally altered metamorphic rocks of the ancient Damara Belt. Mining in the district dates back to local extraction and German colonial activity in the 19th century, with subsequent commercial operations focusing on copper extraction. The mine became legendary among mineral collectors in the early 1970s after producing world-class, unusually large cuprite crystals, along with exceptional native copper, malachite pseudomorphs, and associated calcite specimens.
Nice Namibian classic, satiny almost chatoyant green crystallized blocky malachite in a cluster with little attached matrix. Complete all around and in great condition.
