Magnetite
specimen number:
2341060
location:
Tamazert Complex, Ait Oufella Caidat, Midelt Cercle, Midelt, Draa-Tafilalet, Morocco
description: The Tamazert Complex, located south of Midelt in the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco, is an Eocene multiphase alkaline and peralkaline intrusive system that penetrated surrounding limestone and marble formations. Historically known more for scientific study and specimen collecting of diverse alkaline and accessory phases rather than large-scale industrial mining, the area features numerous small prospects and pockets explored by local and international collectors. Within this complex, magnetite occurs as an accessory iron oxide phase distributed throughout the various ultramafic, gabbroic, and syenitic intrusive rocks, occasionally forming notable grains or pods that draw interest from mineral enthusiasts.
A loose cluster of mirror bright sharp octahedral magnetite crystals. Very little attached matrix on the base, crystallized all around and in great condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Jan Erik Larsen.
