San Manuel Mine, Copiapo, Atacama, Chile
description: The San Manuel Mine (also known as the San Samuel Mine), located in the Carrera Pinto and Cachiyuyo de Llampos district near Copiapo in the Atacama Region of Chile, is a historic vein deposit host to rich hydrothermal copper and secondary oxide mineralization. Geologically set within altered monzonite and diorite country rocks, the deposit features primary copper sulfides along with an extensive oxidation zone containing brightly colored minerals such as atacamite, chrysocolla, malachite, and rare molybdenum species like lindgrenite. Mined historically through underground workings for its high-grade copper ores, the location became notable among mineral collectors and researchers as a classic source of rare secondary copper molybdate specimens.
Sparkling green crystals to 0.2 cm in size sparse on matrix. Good example for the species.
Size: 7.5 x 5.5 x 4.0 cm (small-cabinet)
