specimen number:
2063067
location:
Yellow Pine Mine, Goodsprings, Nevada, USA
description: The Yellow Pine Mine near Goodsprings, Nevada, is a historic underground deposit hosted within Paleozoic carbonate rock formations, where metal-rich solutions formed rich secondary ore bodies containing abundant hydrozincite alongside other zinc and lead minerals. Discovered in the late nineteenth century and heavily mined during the early twentieth century, the site became the largest zinc and lead producer in the district, and today its old dumps remain popular destinations for mineral collectors seeking fluorescent specimens.
Sparkling white micro crystals of hydrozincite covering the front side of matrix slight damage present as seen. There are some tiny black crystals present which might be the species scrutinyite. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark. His label notes that this was collected by Tim Starkey in December, 1994.
Size: 9.0 x 5.0 x 2.0 cm (small-cabinet)
