location:
Linopolis, Divino das Laranjeiras, Minas Gerais, Brazil
description: Linopolis, located in Divino das Laranjeiras within the Doce River valley of Minas Gerais, Brazil, is situated in a world renowned pegmatite province characterized by complex granitic intrusions that cooled slowly to form coarse-grained pockets containing rare elements. Historically, artisanal and small-scale mining operations in the area intensified during the mid-20th century, drawing international attention for yielding exceptional crystal specimens and gem-quality phosphate minerals, most notably the type locality discovery of vibrant yellow-green brazilianite crystals that became highly prized by global mineral collectors and museum curators.
From the 1990s, very fine grouping of hydroxylherderite crystals partially cemented with minor quartz and cookeite. The largest crystal measures 3.3 cm in height. Aesthetically arranged and crystallized completely all around, in great condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark who acquired it through Brazilian dealer Luiz Menezies.
