Hutchinsonite with Galena, Pyrite
specimen number:
9506501
location:
Quiruvilca Mine, La Libertad, Peru
description:
Hutchinsonite is a rare thallium bearing mineral. Long known from this locality in Peru, it was often seen as small micro crystals scattered amongst orpiment from material collected at this mine in the 1980s. Within the past year or so a terrific strike of the material has come to light. This current example is absolutely superb with reddish needle like crystals to almost 1.0 cm in length scattered very thickly over the top of a 14.0 x 8.0 x 3.0 cm botryoidal crystallized Galena matrix with minor pyrite. This is an outstanding condition. Specimens from this find have to rank among the world's finest for the species.
Size: 14.0 x 8.0 x 3.0 cm (cabinet)
