Hutchinsonite with Galena, Orpiment
specimen number:
9506503
location:
Quiruvilca Mine, La Libertad, Peru
description: Hutchinsonite is a rare thallium bearing mineral. Long known from this locality in Peru, it was often seen as small micro crystals scattered amongst orpiment from material collected at this mine in the 1980s. Within the past year or so a terrific strike of the material has come to light. This current example shows many very fine and choice bright lustrous metallic needle like crystals to 0.5 cm in size scattered over a matrix of botryoidal crystallized galena and orange crystallized orpiment. The piece measures 16.5 x 13.0 x 3.0 cm in size. This is an outstanding condition and quite good for the species. Good large cabinet crystallized examples of this rare mineral of never been common on the mineral market.
Size: 16.5 x 13.0 x 3.0 cm (large-cabinet)
