Hulsite with Biotite, Epidote
specimen number:
2351013
location:
Brooks Mtn, Seward, Nome Borough, Alaska
description: Brooks Mountain, located in the York Mountains of the western Seward Peninsula within Nome Borough, Alaska, features a rugged landscape formed by sedimentary and limestone rocks intruded by granitic plutons, resulting in significant contact-metasomatic tin deposits. Discovered and explored during early twentieth-century tin prospecting surges in the region, the area is notably recognized as a type locality for the rare tin-bearing iron magnesium borate mineral hulsite, which occurs within these unique skarn environments and attracts mineral collectors worldwide.
Black foliated masses of hulsite throughout this matrix with biotite and greenish epidote. Good rich example for this rare mineral. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Eric Laskowski.
