Hemimorphite
specimen number:
2062657
location:
Blanchard mine, Socorro Co., New Mexico, USA
description: The Blanchard Mine, situated in the Hansonburg Mining District within Socorro County, New Mexico, was discovered in 1872 with initial commercial production beginning in 1917. Although commercial metal mining experienced intermittent closures and active periods through the 20th century due to processing challenges and water scarcity, the site never permanently closed and is actively operated today for the production of collectible mineral specimens. Geologically, the deposit is part of the Rio Grande Rift system, featuring mineralization concentrated as open-space fillings, fault breccias, and solution cavities primarily within the Council Springs limestone, yielding prominent world-class specimens of fluorite, barite, galena, and quartz.
Bright white sparkling micro crystals of hemimorphite very rich across the top of matrix. In great condition, choice example for the species from this famous locality. Collected by Ray DeMark in 1973.
Size: 5.3 x 3.5 x 3.0 cm (miniature)
