Hematite
specimen number:
2341377
location:
Nador Pachalik, Nador, Oriental, Morocco
description: Located in the Oriental region of Morocco, the Nador Pachalik area features rich iron ore deposits associated with volcanic and sedimentary rock sequences shaped by complex regional tectonics. Historically known for industrial and artisanal mining operations targeting iron resources, the area has gained international fame among mineral collectors and museums for producing exceptional specimens of hematite. These mineral formations often occur as brilliant, metallic, mirror-bright crystal plates, rosette clusters, and sharp specularite formations that are meticulously recovered by local miners.
Thin mirror bright lustrous metallic crystals of hematite, the most prominent crystal standing straight up from matrix in measuring 2.2 x 1.8 x 0.1 cm in size. Several smaller crystals are scattered throughout. In good condition for what this is, quite choice for the species. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Jan Erik Larsen.
