Gold with Chrysocolla, Malachite
specimen number:

location:
Bleida Far West Mine, Tinzouline Caidat, Zagora Cercle, Zagora, Draa-Tafilalet, Morocco
description: The Bleida Far West Mine is situated within the Neoproterozoic Bou Azzer-El Graara ophiolitic and tectonic window of the Anti-Atlas belt in Morocco. Its complex geology features hydrothermally altered volcanic and metasedimentary rocks hosting unique low-temperature, sulfide-poor mineral assemblages rich in precious metals, palladium, and various selenides. While the broader Bleida district has a long history of industrial copper extraction dating back to the mid-20th century, the Far West sector has more recently gained prominence among international mineral collectors and researchers for yielding remarkable specimens of native gold, quartz, and associated secondary minerals.
Bright visible crystallized native gold in a cluster 1.0 x 0.4 x 0.3 cm in size set up on a matrix with chrysocolla and malachite. This is in good condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Jan Erik Larsen.
