La Tosca cut, Potosi mine, Vetas, Soto, Santander, Colombia
description:
A beautiful lustrous nugget of native gold. Neat locality example, this is complete all around and in great condition. The hole seen in this piece is Pre-Columbian The piece was found buried very deep when the area where the mine was exploited in pre-Columbian times was reached. Someone during pre-Columbian time made the hole likely for a future jewelry piece and buried or hid it possibly to protect it from theft or to be confiscated. It must have belonged to some important figure of the time considering the amount of gold.
