Fluorite with Sphalerite, Quartz
specimen number:
8011021
location:
Deardorff Mine, Cave-In-Rock Sub-District, Illinois - Kentucky Fluorspar District, Hardin Co., Illinois, USA
description: A really top quality large cabinet example showing crystals typifying this important old locality. Semi-lustrous translucent rosy purple undamaged cubic crystals of fluorite measuring to 3.2 cm on edge are scattered neatly over the top of a 19.0 x 15.0 x 6.5 cm matrix. The matrix is coated by sparkling small quartz crystals (typical for this locality) and small sparkling black sphalerite crystals. The piece sits perfectly by itself for display and will show all around. At one time this piece was part of the Jim Dufoe collection. It then went to the Steve Neely collection. We acquired the piece from this collection in the late 1990s and sold it. We've since reacquired the piece. I have seen a lot of good specimens from this mine, for my taste, this one ranks among the best that I have seen.
Size: 19.0 x 15.0 x 6.5 cm (large-cabinet)
