Fluorite, Quartz epimorph after Calcite
specimen number:
2063358
location:
La Fluorita Dulcita, Cochise Co., Arizona, USA
description: Located on private ranch land in Cochise County, Arizona, La Fluorita Dulcita is a modern mineral prospect famous for its unique geological formations within karst limestone host rock. The geology features several generations of mineralized solutions that deposited sharp octahedral and cuboctahedral fluorite crystals atop delicate quartz epimorphs after calcite, creating hollow, intricate mineral casts. Though not a historic industrial mine, it gained significant attention among specimen collectors in recent years following the discovery of large, pristine underground pockets containing vibrant purple fluorite as well as rare, rounded ox eyes fluorite habit formations.
Light purple semi lustrous translucent octahedral crystals of fluorite averaging 0.5 cm in size, these across the top of a thin crystallized quartz. The quartz has form hollow casts, or epimorphs, after now gone larger scalenohedral crystals of calcite. This is very evident seen in the video and the backside of the piece. In good condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
Size: 12.0 x 10.0 x 4.0 cm (cabinet)
