Fluorite
specimen number:
2341360
location:
Aghbala, Beni Mellal, Tadla-Azilal, Morocco
description: The Aghbala area within the Beni Mellal region of Morocco is characterized by rugged Paleozoic and Mesozoic sedimentary rock formations that were heavily folded, faulted, and uplifted during the Cenozoic Atlas orogeny. Mineralization in these mountain terrains developed as hydrothermal fluids circulated through tectonic fractures and dissolution cavities within carbonate strata, depositing exceptional mineral specimens. Local prospectors and collectors actively target these remote mountain pockets for fluorite, which occurs in attractive crystalline habits with distinctive colors resulting from natural trace impurities and irradiation. These sought-after fluorite specimens feature well-defined crystals that are prized by international mineral enthusiasts for their clarity and aesthetic appeal.
A lovely specimen showing very light bluish purple somewhat frosted cubic crystals that are gemmy throughout of fluorite, the largest measuring 3.2 x 3.2 x 3.2 cm on edge. These are set aesthetically across a matrix of white crystallized barite. Slight micro-chipping present, overall this is in really good condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Jan Erik Larsen.
