Fluorite
specimen number:
2341308
location:
Hameda Quarries, Jorf, Errachidia, Meknes-Tafilalet, Morocco
description: Located near Erfoud in the Draa-Tafilalet region of eastern Morocco, Jorf is renowned among mineral enthusiasts for producing distinctive yellow fluorite specimens. The geology of the area features hydrothermal quartz veins cutting through Paleozoic sedimentary rocks, where late-stage low-temperature fluids deposited vibrant fluorite crystals alongside baryte and quartz. Mining in the Jorf district relies largely on small-scale artisanal operations, with local miners hand-excavating deep pits and shafts to extract delicate mineral clusters. Mineral collectors highly prize Jorf fluorite for its intense canary-yellow color, excellent gemmy clarity, and striking combination with lustrous white tabular barite crystals.
Semi lustrous mostly transparent yellow green crystals of fluorite to 4.3 cm on edge in an attractive aesthetic cluster with minor matrix attached on the backside. Very minimal micro-damage present, this is in really good condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Jan Erik Larsen and dates to 2008.
