2063392
location:
Crystal Peak, Teller Co., Colorado, USA
description: Located within Teller County in central Colorado, Crystal Peak is situated in the famous Pikes Peak Batholith, a massive Precambrian granite intrusion known for its coarse-grained pegmatite pockets. The locality has a rich history of mineral collecting dating back to the late nineteenth century, when miners and hobbyists first discovered rich hydrothermal cavities containing world-class specimens. Artisanal collectors and specimen miners at Crystal Peak frequently uncover beautiful fluorite crystals, prized worldwide for their distinct octahedrons and cubes, vibrant green to purple hues, and famous associations with smoky quartz and microcline feldspar.
A mostly loose purplish green translucent semi lustrous cubic crystal of fluorite. Crystallized completely all around with little attached matrix. In good condition with slight micro-cleaving present on one corner. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark. His label notes that the specimen came from the RCHMS claim. The largest dimension given is on a diagonal from one corner to another.
