Deep purple non-lustrous slightly translucent botryoidal cluster of crystallized fluorite. Complete all around and in great condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.

Canon City, Colorado, was founded in 1859 during the Pikes Peak gold rush, experienced a brief abandonment, and was permanently settled and incorporated in 1872. Geologically, the area sits at a transition zone where Precambrian crystalline basement rocks of the Wet Mountains and Front Range meet diverse sedimentary layers shaped by ancestral mountain building and later tectonic uplift. Local mineral occurrences include epithermal and hydrothermal veins, and where fluorine-bearing solutions interacted with regional fault and fracture systems, deposits of fluorite formed. The botryoidal and reniform varieties of fluorite found regionally typically developed in low-temperature epithermal or hot-spring environments, where colloidal silica and mineral-rich fluids precipitated in concentric, globular layers around rock cores.
