description: The Elmwood Mine in Smith County, Tennessee, is a well known zinc mining locality that has been worked since the mid 20th century. The deposit consists of Mississippi Valley type mineralization in limestone, producing zinc, lead, and associated minerals. The mine is especially famous among mineral collectors for producing high quality specimens such as sphalerite, fluorite, calcite, and barite. Many specimens from Elmwood are noted for their large size, bright color, and excellent crystal form, making the locality one of the most important modern sources of fine mineral specimens in the United States.
A wonderful grouping of gemmy lustrous cubic fluorite crystals with minor sphalerite and barite attached. Razor-sharp and in super condition. The quality is outstanding. When backlit color zoning is very obvious.
