location:
Upper New Street Quarry, Paterson, Passaic Co., New Jersey, USA
description: The Upper New Street Quarry in Paterson, New Jersey, was a historic trap-rock operation active from the late 19th through the mid-20th century. Situated within the basalt flows of the First Watchung Mountain, the site became world-renowned among mineral collectors for the exceptional secondary crystals that formed in its cooling vesicles and fractures. Hydrothermal activity within the volcanic rock created rich pockets of fine zeolites, prehnite, datolite, pectolite, and various quartz varieties, making it one of the premier mineral localities in the region.
Lustrous colorless slightly translucent blocky pseudo-cubic crystals of fluorapophyllite to 1.2 cm on edge set aesthetically up on matrix. Sharp and in very good condition.
