Ferrimolybdite
specimen number:
2351054
location:
Missouri Belle Mine, Gibbonsville, Lemhi Co., Idaho, USA
description: The Missouri Belle Mine, situated in the Gibbonsville District of Lemhi County, Idaho, is historically recognized for its epithermal quartz vein deposits bearing rich precious metal mineralization, particularly gold along with secondary sulfide minerals. Discovered during the late nineteenth-century mining boom in east-central Idaho, the mine operated primarily through underground tunnels targeting quartz veins hosted within Precambrian metamorphic and sedimentary basement rocks. Throughout its peak production years in the late 1800s and early 1900s, miners extracted high-grade gold ores, while mineral collectors subsequently valued the locality for its classic historical specimens of quartz, pyrite, gold, and associated secondary minerals typical of the Salmon River mountains region.
Rich yellow micro crystalline ferrimolybdite throughout matrix. Good rich example for the species. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Jack Nieburger.
Size: 6.5 x 6.5 x 2.0 cm (small-cabinet)
