Bear Lake, Monmouth, Highlands East, Haliburton Co., Ontario, Canada
description: Situated in Haliburton County, Ontario, Canada, the Bear Lake locality in Monmouth Township within Highlands East is world-renowned for its Grenville Province skarn geology, where late-stage calcite veins cut through metamorphic rocks. Active collecting since the mid-twentieth century has made this site famous for producing massive, exceptionally well-crystallized dark amphibole crystals embedded in orange calcite matrix.
A grouping with large lustrous well-formed crystals black and in great condition with little attached matrix. Note that at one time this material was referred to as hornblende. In very good condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
