location:
Xihuashan, Dayu Co., Ganzhou, Jiangxi, China
description: Located in Dayu County within Jiangxi Province, the Xihuashan deposit is a premier granite-hosted ore system associated with Yanshanian complex intrusive rocks, featuring hundreds of mineralized quartz veins containing valued metal resources. Mining history in the area dates back centuries, beginning with early tin extraction during the Song Dynasty, followed by the landmark discovery of tungsten in 1907 and systematic industrial production starting in the early 20th century. As a foundational pillar of China's modern mining industry and a celebrated locality for mineral specimens, the site has yielded extensive geological significance and is recognized as an important industrial heritage landmark.
Thick grouping of semi lustrous terminated ferberite crystals with little attached matrix. This is in good condition all around with minimal cleaving present on one side. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark. He acquired the piece from a Peking Geological Museum in May, 1981.
