Enargite
specimen number:
2063135
location:
Penshan Orebody, Chinkuashih mine, Ruifang, New Taipei City, Taiwan
description: The Penshan Orebody is the largest mineralized zone within the historic Chinkuashih mine in Ruifang, New Taipei City, Taiwan, formed through volcanic and hydrothermal activity that emplaced rich veins of precious and base metals within dacite host rocks. Commercial mining operations peaked during the Japanese colonial period and continued post-war before closing in the late twentieth century, yielding massive quantities of gold, copper, and silver. Today, the site has transitioned into a cultural and geological landmark where old tunnels like the Penshan Fifth Tunnel attract tourists and mineral collectors seeking fine specimen examples of sulfide and associated gangue minerals.
A superb crystal for the species, a lustrous prismatic loose metallic crystal grouping of enargite. This is in good condition. Classic locality for the species, this likely collected in the 1970s.
