location:
Narssarssuk, Igaliku, Kujalleq, Greenland
description: Located within the Igaliko nepheline syenite complex in southern Greenland, the Narssarssuk pegmatite is a world-famous mineralogical locality discovered and extensively explored during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. This agpaitic pegmatite intrusion is celebrated for its rich miarolitic cavities containing an extraordinary diversity of rare alkaline and zirconium-bearing minerals. Among its most notable discoveries is the type locality material for elpidite, a rare silicate mineral forming prismatic or fibrous crystals and radiating clusters that attracted international attention from mineral collectors and geologists studying complex alkaline igneous rocks.
A grouping of tan colored crystals to 0.4 cm in height coming off matrix. Good example for the species. The specimen comes with a previous label from the Geological Museum in Copenhagen.
