Beautiful grouping of glassy gem pinkish purple elbaite crystals with minor quartz. Complete all around and in great condition. A beautiful gem crystal specimen for this famous locality. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark. He acquired the piece around 1979.

The Jonas Mine, situated on the Itatiaia hillside near Conselheiro Pena in Minas Gerais, Brazil, is a world-famous underground mining location set within the Eastern Brazilian Pegmatite Province. Geologically, the deposit consists of a coarse-grained granitic pegmatite body hosted in regional metamorphic basement rocks, featuring large miarolitic cavities that fostered the growth of exceptional gemstone specimens. While initial small-scale operations began in the 1940s, the mine achieved legendary status in 1978 when miners opened a massive pocket that produced tons of exceptionally saturated pink and red crystals, cementing its reputation as one of the twentieth century's most significant mineral discoveries.
