Dioptase
specimen number:
2063054
location:
Okatumba prospect, Opuwo Rural, Kunene Region, Namibia
description: The Okatumba prospect in the Opuwo Rural area of the Kunene Region in northwestern Namibia is situated within the Neoproterozoic Kaoko Belt, a regional geological framework characterized by complex metamorphic and sedimentary formations. The local geology predominantly consists of carbonate rocks and interbedded metasediments, such as dolomite and argillite units of the Ombombo Subgroup, which have been locally crosscut by mineralized vein systems associated with regional tectonic and hydrothermal activity. Regarding its history, the site has been evaluated primarily as an early-stage base metal exploration target for sediment-hosted deposits, featuring minor historic prospecting and shallow artisanal workings rather than large-scale commercial mining operations.
Deep green lustrous slightly translucent prismatic crystals of dioptase to 1.7 cm in length set nicely on matrix. This is in good condition. Choice large crystals for the species. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
Size: 4.5 x 3.0 x 1.5 cm (miniature)
