Digenite
specimen number:
2354224
location:
Butte, Silver Bow Co., Montana, USA
description: Located within the Boulder Batholith of southwestern Montana, Butte is historically known as the Richest Hill on Earth for its massive copper, silver, and gold hydrothermal vein deposits formed during regional tectonic and magmatic events. Decades of intense underground and open-pit mining transformed the region into a legendary mining center and mineral locality. Among the diverse assemblage of copper-bearing phases discovered within its complex ore bodies is digenite, a dark copper sulfide mineral that formed through supergene enrichment processes and remains a significant specimen for collectors studying hypogene and supergene mineral suites.
Very rich large mass of lustrous metallic digenite coming off matrix. Pyrite present as well. The specimen comes with an old dealer label from Robert Roots, Denver, Colorado.
