Dawsonite with Fluorite
specimen number:
2351005
location:
Francon Quarry, Montreal, Quebec, Canada
description: The Francon Quarry, located in the Saint-Michel district of Montreal, Quebec, operated as a commercial limestone quarry for decades before closing in the 1980s. Geologically, the site features flat-lying Ordovician limestone intruded by alkaline igneous sills related to the Monteregian Hills event. During its active mining years and subsequent collecting periods, mineralogists and hobbyists discovered numerous rare cavity-filling minerals within the contact zones, making it a world-famous type locality for several unique mineral species.
An area very rich with sparkling micro crystals of white dawsonite, dark purple crystals of fluorite present as well. In very good condition.
