Copper
specimen number:
9505462
location:
Luilu, Lualaba, DR Congo
description: From a recent find in the Congo, beautifully crystallized twinned native copper crystals in a cluster without matrix. In super condition. Outstanding example for the species. Luilu is an industrial and metallurgical center located in the Lualaba Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, famously anchored by the major Luilu metallurgical plant and refinery established in 1952 by Union Miniere du Haut-Katanga (later Gecamines) to process copper and cobalt ores. While the industrial complex and adjacent operations remain active today, the surrounding geology is situated within the world-renowned Central African Copperbelt, characterized by Neoproterozoic sediment-hosted stratiform copper and cobalt deposits embedded within folded and faulted rocks of the Lufilian Arc.
