Sort of flattened nicely crystallized arborescent native copper set perfectly for display on matrix. The piece sits by itself perfectly for display as well. In great condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark. His label notes that he acquired the piece in 1972.

The Ray Mine in Pinal County, Arizona, has a history dating back to its initial prospecting and small-scale operations in 1880, followed by organized underground mining starting around 1909 and a major transition to open-pit operations in the late 1940s and early 1950s; it remains an active, operating mine today. Geologically, the deposit is a classic porphyry copper system centered in a complex terrain of Precambrian schist and intrusive rocks. Mineralization features primary sulfide minerals disseminated within intrusive sills alongside a significant supergene-enriched blanket where weathering concentrated metal values near the surface.
