Cookeite
specimen number:
2351010
location:
Taquaral, Itinga, Minas Gerais, Brazil
description: The Taquaral district near Itinga in Minas Gerais, Brazil, is situated within the Eastern Brazilian Pegmatite Province, a region renowned for complex granitic pegmatites emplaced during regional tectono-metamorphic events. These complex zoned pegmatites developed through fractional crystallization and late-stage hydrothermal activity, producing cavities rich in rare elements. Mining and mineral collecting in this area have a long history targeting gem-quality tourmalines, phosphates, and lithium-bearing minerals. Cookeite commonly occurs here as a hydrothermal alteration or secondary mineral, forming soft, pearly micaceous aggregates coating or pseudomorphing primary tourmalines and other silicates inside the weathered pockets of the pegmatites.
A columnar crystal grouping of cookeite crystals. Good example for the species, in good condition.
