location:
Mica Lode, Fremont Co., Colorado, USA
description: The Mica Lode in Fremont County, Colorado, USA, is a famous granitic pegmatite deposit situated within the Eight Mile Park mining district, formed during Precambrian igneous activity. Geological processes led to the development of coarse-grained pegmatite bodies rich in quartz, feldspar, and various accessory minerals within Precambrian metamorphic host rocks. Mining began in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, primarily targeting industrial mica and feldspar for commercial applications. Over time, operations and subsequent field collecting exposed exceptional mineral specimens, making the locality well known among collectors for large muscovite books, microcline crystals, beryl, and rare phosphates. Today, the area remains a classic historical Colorado pegmatite site appreciated for both its industrial mining legacy and its diverse mineralogy.
A solid mass of semi lustrous black columbite-Fe. Some crude crystal faces are present. Minor muscovite present. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Jack Nieburger. Interesting locality example for the species.
