specimen number:
2062996
location:
Tongren Mine, Yunchangping, Guizhou, China
description: The Tongren region in Guizhou, China, is renowned for its rich metallogenic geology, specifically associated with hydrothermal deposits hosted within sedimentary carbonate rock layers. Historically, this area has served as a primary center for mercury and vibrant mineral extraction, boasting a mining heritage that spans over a thousand years. Extensive underground networks developed over centuries have yielded world-class crystal specimens of cinnabar, often twinned, along with quartz, barite, etc.
Numerous twinned semi lustrous crystals of deep red cinnabar to 0.4 cm in size across the top of a crystallized quartz matrix. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark, who acquired this in May, 1981 the Peking Geological Museum. This is in good condition.
Size: 3.3 x 2.7 x 0.5 cm (miniature)
Collection: Ray DeMark
