Chrysocolla on Malachite pseudomorph

specimen number:
4471014

location:
Lupoto Mine, Kakumba, Kipushi, Haut-Katanga, DR Congo

description:
Very attractive specimen from material collected maybe five or six years ago. Bladed crystals of what could be azurite, but could be a number of other species such as barite, are replaced by green crystallized malachite. These in turn are coated with light blue crystalline chrysocolla. The specimen is in particularly good condition for one of these. The largest crystals measure to 1.0 cm in size.
