Charoite
specimen number:
2062913
location:
Murunskii Massif, Chara and Tokko Rivers Confluence, Aldan Shield, Russia
description: The Murunskii Massif, situated near the confluence of the Chara and Tokko Rivers on the Aldan Shield in Russia, is a remote geological complex formed by alkaline magma intrusions interacting with surrounding carbonate rocks through high-temperature metasomatism. This unique geological environment created charoite, a rare, fibrous, purple silicate mineral discovered in the mid-twentieth century. Mining and collecting in this harsh, isolated region of Siberia are logistically challenging, making high-grade charoite specimens scarce and highly prized by collectors worldwide.
Classic Russian material for the species, this is a slabbed section of rich purple charoite. Polished on one face. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
Size: 11.5 x 6.0 x 0.5 cm (cabinet)
Collection: Ray DeMark
