location:
Corporation quarries, Clifton Hill, Collingwood, City of Yarra, Victoria, Australia
description: The Corporation Quarries in Clifton Hill, located within the inner-northern suburb of Collingwood in the City of Yarra, Victoria, Australia, operated historically as major sources of basalt and bluestone during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. These basalt excavations became widely recognized among mineral collectors as prolific sites for fine secondary cavity minerals, most notably phacolite. Phacolite is a distinctively twinned, lens-shaped variety of chabazite-Na characterized by its small, transparent to translucent rhombohedral crystal aggregates nestled within the volcanic host rock.
A lustrous sharp twinned crystal measuring 1.7 x 1.3 x 1.0 cm in size set perfectly up on matrix. This is in good condition. Choice thumbnail.
