Cerussite with Quartz
specimen number:
2341349
location:
Bouzougar, Taouz Caidat, Er-Rissani Cercle, Errachidia, Draa-Tafilalet, Morocco
description: The geology of Taouz in southeastern Morocco is characterized by rugged desert terrain featuring Paleozoic sedimentary and volcanic rocks rich in diverse metallic mineral deposits, particularly iron and manganese oxides that form striking stalactitic and vuggy mineral formations. Historically, small scale mining and prospecting in this remote desert area date back decades, driven by both commercial extraction and a thriving local mining community. In recent years, the region has gained international renown among mineral collectors and museums for producing exceptional aesthetic specimens of vanadinite on coronadite associated rare secondary mineral species.
Very fine example for the species and locality, about one half of this matrix is mostly covered nicely with twinned semi lustrous translucent colorless crystals of cerussite measuring to 3.5 cm across. The matrix is partly coated with micro crystalline quartz. This is in very good condition and displays nicely. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Jan Erik Larsen and dates to the early 2000's.
