Cerussite
specimen number:
2062901
location:
Flux Mine, Santa Cruz Co., Arizona, USA
description: Located in the Patagonia Mountains of Santa Cruz County, Arizona, the Flux Mine features complex geology where replacement and hydrothermal deposits formed within faulted Paleozoic limestone blocks. Historically, the mine was worked for lead, silver, and zinc, seeing intermittent production from the late nineteenth century through the mid-twentieth century. Today, it is world-renowned among mineral collectors for producing exceptional specimens of cerussite, particularly delicate, needle-like crystal bundles historically described as jackstraw clusters found within its oxidized underground zones.
Choice white classic jackstraw crystals of cerussite measuring to 1.7 cm in length set nicely up on a matrix of limonite. Classic material for this locality. In very good condition. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark. This was collected in the late 1970s by David Shannon.
Size: 8.5 x 6.0 x 4.0 cm (small-cabinet)
