Celestine with Calcite
specimen number:
2062809
location:
Rockwood quarry, Wayne Co., Michigan, USA
description: The Rockwood quarry area in Wayne County, Michigan, exposes Paleozoic bedrock formations that include high purity silica sandstone and associated carbonate layers. Historically, mining operations in this region targeted these sedimentary layers for glassmaking sand and construction aggregates. Mineral collectors and researchers have long valued the site for vug cavities within the bedrock containing notable crystal specimens such as pale yellow calcite and celestine, along with occasional fluorite and quartz.
Good combination specimen with colorless translucent lustrous crystals of Celestine to 3.5 cm in height coming off matrix with a mostly gemmy scalenohedral pale yellow crystal of calcite to 2.0 cm in size. This is in very good condition. From the 1990s. The specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark.
Size: 6.5 x 5.0 x 3.0 cm (small-cabinet)
Collection: Ray DeMark
