Campigliaite
specimen number:
2354231
location:
Deer Trail Mine, Piute Co., Utah, USA
description: Situated in the Tushar Mountains of Piute County, Utah, the Deer Trail Mine is a historic underground deposit discovered in 1878 that became a prominent producer of silver, lead, and zinc. Its geology is characterized by elongated strata-bound replacement bodies, or mantos, formed where hydrothermal fluids reacted with Paleozoic carbonate rocks. Mineral collectors and researchers prize the locality not only for its historic base metal production but also for hosting rare secondary minerals like campigliaite, an uncommon pale blue copper and manganese sulfate that crystallizes in the oxidation zones of such hydrothermal ore systems.
Fairly rich light blue micro crystalline and massive campigliaite across matrix.
Size: 5.0 x 4.0 x 4.0 cm (miniature)
