Caledonite with Linarite

specimen number:
2354221

location:
Blue Bell Claims, San Bernardino Co., California, USA

description:
Attractive greenish blue massive and micro crystalline caledonite fairly rich across one side of matrix with brilliant deep blue micro crystalline and massive linarite. Very good reference quality example for both species at this locality.

The Blue Bell Claims in San Bernardino County, California, consist of a historic group of underground mines and prospects originally worked for metals like copper, lead, silver, and gold. Geologically, the site features complex desert mountain terrain cut by intrusive dikes and fault zones that host rich oxidized ore bodies. Over decades of intermittent mining and extensive prospecting, the locality has become world-famous among mineral collectors for yielding a remarkable diversity of secondary mineral species. Among these treasures are caledonite and linarite, two striking secondary minerals that form in the weathered oxidation zones of lead and copper deposits. Caledonite typically appears as vibrant blue-green or teal prismatic crystals, while linarite is prized for its intense, deep azure-blue color, making both species highly sought-after collector specimens.
