The Osikovo deposit, associated with the Septemvri Mine in the Madan ore field of the Smolyan Province in Bulgaria, is part of a historic mining region with roots tracing back to antiquity. While artisanal and small-scale workings targeted the area centuries ago, modern industrial exploration and underground mining operations commenced heavily in the mid-twentieth century under state-organized enterprises. Geologically, the deposit is situated within the Central Rhodope Dome and consists of hydrothermal lead-zinc vein and metasomatic replacement systems. These ore bodies formed during Paleogene magmatic activity, where high-temperature mineralizing fluids interacted with Precambrian-to-Paleozoic metamorphic rocks and marble host sequences, producing rich sulfide assemblages.
