description: The mines near Leiping, located in Guiyang County, Chenzhou, Hunan Province, China, are notable underground mining areas celebrated globally by mineral collectors and museums for producing exceptional, highly aesthetic calcite crystal specimens. Operations at this site have yielded remarkable, sculptural calcite specimens characterized by unique forms, sharp twinning, and distinct natural coloration.
Superb large cabinet piece with reddish-brown extremely sharp rhombohedral crystals of calcite measuring to 5.5 cm in size across the top of matrix. The color is due to a coating of iron oxide. There is a second-generation of colorless gemmy crystals of calcite scattered throughout. This is in super condition.
