Dalen-Kjorholt Mine, Brevik, Porsgrunn, Vestfold og Telemark, Norway
description: Located near Brevik in Porsgrunn municipality, Norway, the Dalen-Kjorholt Mine is a historic underground limestone extraction site situated within the geologically famous Oslo Rift region. Operating primarily to supply high-grade Ordovician-aged limestone for industrial cement production, the mine has gained significant renown among mineral collectors for its exceptional secondary mineral specimens. Geological fluid processes within the limestone cavities formed world-class hydrothermal mineral deposits, most notably spectacular prismatic calcite crystals, fluorite, and rare zeolites. Today, specimens preserved from the mine's extensive operations remain highly prized by museums and private collectors worldwide for their exceptional crystal clarity and form.
A loose cluster of semi lustrous translucent calcite crystals, the prominent crystal showing a sharp twin. Crystallized all around with no points of attachment and in great condition.
