specimen number:

location:
France Stone Co. Quarry, Monroe Co., Michigan, USA
description: The France Stone Company quarry in Monroe County, Michigan, operates within Paleozoic sedimentary rock formations, primarily extracting limestone and dolomite for aggregate and construction materials. Historically, commercial quarrying operations exposed vugs and cavities within the bedrock that became well known to mineral collectors for producing fine specimens of minerals such as calcite, celestine, pyrite, marcasite, and dolomite.
Very choice richly color lustrous scalenohedral crystals of calcite, the most prominent crystal 6.5 x 3.5 x 3.0 cm in size, coming off matrix. In great condition all around. The crystals show translucency. Specimen comes with a previous label from the collection of Ray DeMark. He acquired the specimen through the Seaman Museum in Michigan. This is said to have been from the Donald Gabriel collection in the 1940s.
Size: 8.0 x 5.0 x 5.0 cm (small-cabinet)
