Calcite
specimen number:
1392138
location:
Montreal mine, Iron Co., Wisconsin, USA
description:
Spherical sparkling colorless crystal groupings of calcite measuring to 2.2 cm in diameter across this hematite rich matrix. This is in super condition. At one time the specimen was part of the collection of John Brottlund. Mr. Brottlund was a miner at this old famous locality. He was responsible for bringing out a large majority of the specimens that we see today. This particular specimen was on public display at the Denver, 1997 show. The specimen has been slightly reinforced on the upper left side of the piece, solidifying what had been a loose section of breccia. This is seen in the video. Brightly fluorescent under longwave ultraviolet light.
